Travel + Leisure magazine rated this property as one of the best in Hawaii and this compelled us to make reservations here, in addition to the excellent reviews of the property. It was a good move and I’m glad this is where we chose to stay during our vacation. The property is immaculate and the rooms are incredible. Ours was located next to the water and we could walk out onto our lanai and out to lounge chairs with a timeless ocean view. The room was spacious and comfortable with numerous amenities, an incredible shower (indoor and outdoor), and highly attentive and friendly staff. I was impressed by how quiet the property was because it left a sense of being more immersed in the natural beauty of the island. At night, the property is mostly dark along the coastline. This is a major contrast to the next door Four Seasons Resort, which is bright and lively, but also probably disruptive to the natural habitat. The bikes on the property are an effective means of traversing the sprawling property but don’t operate perfectly. That said, if that’s not your thing, a helpful staff member driving a golf cart is a quick phone call away. We participated in the Island Roots experience and found this to be an unforgettable part of our stay. Communing with staff and other guests and partaking in local food and traditions was truly a highlight and strongly recommended. The other restaurants on the property were decent but not what I’d describe as amazing but the Four Seasons has some additional options next door if you’re in need of more variety. All in all, I couldn’t recommend this place more if you’re planning a trip to the big island. The price is quite high, but it’s a splurge you’re not likely to regret.

We had a fabulous and very relaxing stay at The Kona Village Resort. The amenities are amazing on this property. Beautiful pools, fitness centre, stunning spa and nice beachfront with great snorkeling. Plenty of water activities too with paddle boards and kayaks available for use. The room was stunning. Everything is new and clean. The housekeeping staff did a phenomenal job. The room was always spotless and the bath products were so nice and smelled so good. The only improvement I feel could be their menu at the restaurants. There were no Hawaiian dishes on the menus which we were disappointed about. Also seemed like they were always out of menu items. Many times we wanted to order something and it wasn’t available. Also felt the food quality didn’t reflect the price points. The wait staff were great however and service was always timely and professional. I would recommend this resort for anyone looking for a short and relaxing getaway.

My wife and I stayed at Rosewood Kona Village in August 2025, and it really is a special place. The setting on the Kona coast is incredible: rugged, beautiful, and quiet. Part of what makes Kona Village unique is its history. The resort was destroyed in the 2011 tsunami, and several staff members told us how Rosewood bought the property and spent nearly a decade rebuilding it. What stood out is how much care they put into keeping the spirit of the originality intact. While most rooms aren’t all too different it doesn’t feel like a cookie-cutter luxury resort. The bungalows are private and comfortable, perfect for just sitting on the patio listening to the ocean. Food was excellent, creative, and rooted in local ingredients. Service struck the right note too: warm and genuine without being over the top. We don’t have kids, but it was clear the resort is great for families. There were plenty of activities for children, and it seemed like they did a good job creating experiences that work for both couples looking for quiet and families with kids. The only real drawback is the price. It’s expensive, even by Hawaii standards. But for a special trip, it’s worth it.

I grew up going to Kona Village and it was always a dream to be able to take my family here some day. Naturally there was always going to be a nostalgia vs current reality aspect here but I can say without a doubt that this place is just as special as it has always been. The property is gorgeous. Rooms are next level. These are all things you will see when you are looking up the resort and they are everything you are hoping for and need. What truly makes this place is the people. They are absolutely dialed in and without a doubt a great time. I saw people walking around drinking out of coconuts. I thought to myself "I should probably go find that and get it for my family". 10 seconds later after thinking that Maria Jose is walking up with 2 coconuts for us. I could name 10+ people in a 4 day span who made an impact small or large on our trip that guaranteed a return visit. Look forward to many more memories at this special place.

This is as our second trip to Kona Village and this year was a disappointment compared to last year. The service for the room cleaning was at very inconvenient times, and inconsistent in quality. The staff does not appear to be trained for a resort of this caliber. The food at the resort was also not as good as last year, with less attention paid to fresh produce and local Hawaiian dishes. We wound up driving 45 minutes each way on 2 nights to Merriman’s in Waimea because the food, atmosphere and service was so much better. We gave the front desk this feedback when we left, and he was apologetic, but said it was due to losing their executive chef, and the service issues were due to it being a slow time of year for the resort in late September. That didn’t really resonate because we paid full freight for our rooms and for those rates it’s reasonable to expect better food and service. We may wait on returning until we hear that these problems are resolved.
