We recently stayed at the Grand Wailea and have mixed feelings about the experience. One the positive side, the grounds are absolutely beautiful and the property itself is stunning. However, the actual guest experience left a lot to be desired, especially considering the price point (nearly $1000/night) The resort feels oversold and overcrowded. Lines are long for almost everything-even for something as simple as picking up a towel. The beach situation was especially disappointing: there are no complimentary lounge chairs, and renting them costs $150/day, which feels unreasonable. They do provide a limited number of fold-up beach chairs, but unless you're up a 6 am to stand in line, you won't get one. Otherwise, you're basically sitting in the sand. Because of this, most guests head to the pools--which means the pool areas are equally overcrowded. Finding a chair there also requires being up before dawn to save one. For a resort of this caliber, that was really frustrating. On top of that, food and drinks are extremely overpriced, and the constant feeling of being nickel-and-dimed takes away from what should be a relaxing, luxury experience. Overall, the property itself is gorgeous, but the management and policies make it feel more like a crowded theme park than a five-star resort. For the cost, I expected a far more comfortable and guest-centered stay. Would not recommend.

Had a fun relaxing stay at this resort. White sandy beach right upfront with no corals. You can walk into the waters barefoot with no issues. There’s a nice paved walkway along the beach to exercise etc. They offer free beach chair rentals. The resort has a few restaurants with different variety food options. There is a 18% service charge on all bills even togo orders. I wish there were microwaves in the room to heat up leftovers. There is a market a block away that has cheaper food/drinks and tasty. The different pools and hot tubs are probably the highlights. Lots of lounge chairs to watch sunsets.

The Waldorf Astoria is undeniably beautiful, and our kids loved the variety of pools. There are several large swimming pools spread throughout the property, which felt a bit like a maze at first but turned into a fun adventure once we got the hang of it. The kids especially loved the water slides. That said, a few things made the stay less relaxing than we’d hoped. The resort was very over crowded and largely not ideal for a family with three kids. Pool seating is extremely limited unless you claim chairs early in the morning, and there aren’t great alternatives for stashing your things. Slow poolside service and wait times for valet added to frustration given the cost of the resort. Dining was another challenge as kid-friendly food options were limited and very expensive for the quality. Plus, if you don’t make dinner reservations well in advance, your options on-site are slim. For a resort at this price point, we expected more ease and availability. Also, no flower leis on arrival… just a small touch we missed. Overall, our kids had a great time and the setting is gorgeous, but the crowds, dining limitations, slow service, and lack of seating warrant a much lower rating than I hoped to give.

My friend and I planned a short 4 day trip to Maui and stayed at this beautiful resort for the first time. It was absolutely everything and more. The service was outstanding, from valet with PK, to the Bellman, Liz, Sam and Brooke in the lounge bar were exceptional with service, friendliness and spot on with recommendations. We then had a VIP cabana and Christopher our VIP server was friendly, attentive and professional. We also had a massage in a cabana with Nani who is Fantastic!! Get a message from her at once. The concierge Kelly or Kathy took great care of us planning for the luau. Thank you for her service with an ease of process. She made us feel VIP. Thank you to the entire staff for all your hard work, service and hospitality. It was truly a magical stay. We will be back.

Went two weeks ago for our 40th Anniversary. Beautiful property and everyone we dealt with was very helpful and very friendly. Lots of great things to do and see within 30 minutes or so. Special thanks to Rebekka at the concierge desk, she was amazing and made our experience so easy and enjoyable. Everyone from housekeeping to valet attendants to restaurant staff could not have been nicer. Definitely an Anniversary to remember.

We stayed at the Grand Wailea for our honeymoon, and while the resort itself is beautiful, overall the experience was disappointing. The front desk did check us in early and upgraded our room, which we appreciated. The room was nice and included a Nespresso machine, but oddly no microwave—seemingly to push you toward spending hundreds of dollars at their on-site restaurants. Prices for everything were outrageous, including $150 just for chairs by the pool or beach. The pools were extremely crowded, and the whole atmosphere felt more transactional than welcoming, with valets expecting tips but offering no real aloha spirit. For the cost of this resort, we expected more warmth and value. Sadly, we won’t be returning.
