LARA ANDERSON (Leave it to Lara!)★☆☆☆☆
We recently stayed at the Outrigger for a week. We were highly disappointed and do not recommend. Before our trip, the front desk advised us to ask for an upgrade upon check-in since there were 4 of us in a room. When we arrived, the line for check-in was 15 people deep and people told us they had been waiting upwards of 90 minutes. Thus began a week of experiencing a completely understaffed hotel, from restaurant wait times to beyond slow food delivery at tables, to lengthy market lines. One meal in particular, we waited 22 minutes before someone offered us water. The hotel lacked basic communication, had multiple rude bartenders, non accommodative front desk, frustrated wait staff and pool staff with zero knowledge of activities and basic information. The only positive was the luau, but even then, we were asked if we were celebrating a special event and filled out “anniversary”. The host read out no less than 20 anniversaries with ours not on the list. Not surprising. Very expensive experience. For our first visit to Hawaii, we wish we had stayed somewhere else and recommend you choose elsewhere!

We love staying at the Outrigger Kona Resort and Spa! The staff is always friendly, and the service is superb. The location is absolutely stunning—the views from the hotel are glorious, and even a simple walk around the grounds feels like an adventure. While we enjoy exploring the Big Island, we also appreciate just relaxing at the resort. The pool area offers something for everyone, including a fun water slide, a shallow beach-like entry, natural surroundings with incredible views, poolside food and beverage service, and cabanas for lounging. In the evenings, the live music adds a wonderful vibe to the atmosphere. The on-site restaurant serves delicious food with excellent service. We’ll definitely be back!

Stayed here for our anniversary. The swan in the room was a super sweet touch! The room was nice, except we were missing a soap dispenser in the shower, I asked housekeeping but she didn't replace it the 3 nights we were there. Almost everyone was super friendly, except 1 guy working at Piko (pm) definitely seemed like he didn't want to be there and I was inconveniencing him by ordering. Other than that, it was a nice stay. Of course pool was fun! Didn't realize they had pool service as the server looked like he was just doing laps and not trying to get orders, restaurant is close by though so we just went and at there.

This property was beautiful…a bit of a drive from “town”.The pools are beautiful…the staff at the pool were very nice. The bar had live music each night and the bar staff was fun. Our issue was after the 1st day we had no hot water. We …

Great place to stay if you want a quiet resort in Kona. Pros: Beautiful resort lobby, the pools are great, very quiet and pretty clean, upgraded my room without any fee. Beautiful views, great place for sunset. Cons: After paying everything online, we had to pay another 70 dollars for some other fee when we arrived. Parking was convenient but it’s 30 a day plus taxes. The bed is very very very soft…for me personally it’s hard to sleep in. The location is quiet but there’s not much food that you can get around the resort. All the restaurants is probably 15 min drive away. Although there’re some downsides. I would recommend this resort and would return if I come to Kona again!

We had a wonderful stay at the Outrigger Kona for our first trip to Hawaii. The staff was friendly and professional everywhere we went. The grounds are extremely beautiful, serene, and spacious enough that it never felt crowded. Beautiful gardens and walking paths to explore, the sound of waves crashing can be heard all around the resort, and both pool areas were relaxing with plentiful seating. The room was very clean and comfortable with a great balcony and view. Can't wait to come back!

Fabulous resort. We did the V47 Club and glad we did. The property was clean and well maintained. Staff were all wonderful and helpful. We booked an ocean view room and it was peaceful and pleasant, and at night we could watch the boats doing manta ray tours. |Highly recommend.

Our stay at Outrigger Kona Resort and Spa was a nightmare. First room: musty, hot (set to 79°), smelled awful. They only moved us after we insisted, even though better rooms were available. On our last night, the entire property lost power — pools, restaurants, and bars shut down, hallways pitch black, and zero safety lighting. The manager lied, claiming it was a county-wide outage (it wasn’t — the rest of the area was lit up). They set up fans and power for the staff, but left guests sweating and in danger. We had to pack in the dark while teens banged on doors. With no safe conditions, we scrambled to book another hotel at $500 extra. Outrigger only refunded the single night we didn’t stay. That’s insulting given the risk, stress, and expense they caused. If you value honesty, safety, and basic hospitality, stay anywhere else — there are better, safer options nearby that actually care about guests.

Our stay at outrigger as a family was great. The room was comfortable and clean. The staff were friendly and accommodating. We loved the pool and the slide was a highlight. It’s about 15 minute drive from Kona. We also attended the luau which was fantastic! The only drawback for us was the selection of food/restaurants. The main restaurant was pricey and the food was not great compared to the other restaurants in Kona. The grab and go had minimal selections of food (pastries and coffee) and was only open morning and evening. We would have loved a grab and go option that offered freshly made breakfast sandwiches. The market however does have some better options.
