Location is great. Remodeled but a little rough. Staff is lazy and unprofessional. We were told we could check in early so we booked the room only to arrive to a different staffer who refused to honor what the previous shift had told us. After waiting in the lobby for over 3 hrs, we asked her if the rooms were ready. She said there were rooms (it’s a week day and not busy) but no one had inspected them yet. At no point during the 3 hrs we were there, did she think to simply get a room (any room) inspected. She said that the night guy had informed her but “He was just tired and wanted to get off the phone”. Only on our way out the door did she offer to see about an inspection….got a refund and won’t be back. Not worth the hassle. This place could be great but staff is unable or unwilling to follow through with what they tell customers. We have stayed here in the past and noticed bad staff before but ignored it. Pay a little more and go down the street. Anywhere but here.

We enjoyed the retro vibe of an historic building repurposed. All the staff were friendly, helpful, and accommodating. I really do mean ALL. While we weren't in the room we had booked, we understand this was beyond their control. Our room was upgraded and we were still able to enjoy this cool old building. Our drinks in the evening and our breakfast in the morning were both surprisingly well done. We are also grateful that we were able to pick up a shirt we had left behind when we passed back through town a few days later. Thank you to all the staff and we would definitely recommend The Kelly.

The staff consistently demonstrates friendliness and a willingness to assist, while the housekeeping team maintains impeccable cleanliness in the rooms. The valets are not only prompt but also courteous. During this stay, I had the pleasure of being checked in by Althea, who was exceptionally helpful, and I also appreciated the kindness of Lester, one of the valet assistants. The only positive thing to say about this place is that the workers from valet to housekeeping all had a smile on their face and were very polite. The shining stars are honestly the valet. They will make you feel like royalty. Everything else about The Kelly is disappointing and embarrassing. The front desk needs better training. We waited 20 mins at 5 am with a plane to catch before seeing anyone to help us retrieve our rental car and check us out. Housekeeping also needs better policing. We stayed on the 13th floor very happy to have the penthouse floor but unfortunately it was DIRTY. The walls, window sill, the shower all grimy. We were concerned with bedbugs bedding was highly uncomfortable and the carpet was just nasty. Our last night staying here housekeeping didn’t return to our room when we left for the day even though we caught them in the hallway to tell them the room was available to clean now (no big deal) but when I called down to the front desk to ask for fresh towels to be sent up we were told to come down to get them (annoying but okay. It was midnight) but to my surprise when I went down there only one set of towels was available (good thing there was only two people in the room). Listen I know it’s $180 I don’t expect much but I do expect there to be a bountiful amount of towels and clean rooms at the very least

Val at the front desk was absolutely amazing—welcoming, friendly, and so helpful in making my check-in smooth and stress-free. Her energy truly set the tone for the rest of my stay. Terry at the valet desk was just as fantastic. Not only was he prompt and professional, but he also made me feel like a valued guest every time I came or went from the hotel. His positive attitude and attention to detail really stood out. The hotel itself is stunning and stylish, with an upscale vibe and modern decor that made my stay feel special. From the bold design to the excellent customer service, everything was top-tier. I’ll absolutely be staying here again on my next trip to Birmingham.
